“Wetlands for Disaster Risk Reduction” is the theme for 2017
World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on 2nd February. This day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2nd February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
The theme “Wetlands for Disaster Risk Reduction” has been selected to raise awareness and to highlight the vital roles of healthy wetlands in reducing the impacts of extreme events such as floods, droughts and cyclones on communities, and in helping to build resilience.
In this line, WWT Consulting has been working on a Wetland Management Strategy for Colombo Metro urban wetlands, which has confirmed the importance of the wetlands for reducing flood damage and treating water pollution.

Happy World Wetlands Day planning!
