World Wetlands Day 2015: Wetlands for Our Future – Join the celebrations!
World Wetlands Day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971 in Ramsar, Iran.
This year’s theme is “Wetlands for Our Future”, a brilliant excuse not only to celebrate those unique habitats that provide us with food and water, help fight climate change and are essential for wildlife, but also to highlight that our future depends on them.
As Dr. Christopher Briggs (Secretary General of the Ramsar Convention) points out, “The reason we should care more about our wetlands is because they are the only source of our fresh water and the essential ingredient for all development. So, we need to educate people of all ages to understand how wetlands already play a part in their lives and get them to care as passionately as we do for their maintenance and restoration”.
At WWT Consulting we do care about wetlands and focus our work across the globe to safeguard wetlands for our future, here are just a few examples:
You can do your bit to help spread the word on why wetlands are essential for our future by taking part in the activities organised for such a special celebration at World Wetlands Day official website. You can also read more about this inspiring subject in the WWT news.
Happy World Wetlands Day!
