WWT Consulting contributes to an article in Engineering and Technology
We recently contributed to an article entitled Why the world needs wetlands published in Engineering and Technology (E&T). The article’s main focus is the importance of preserving wetlands globally.
By showcasing large wetland restoration projects around the world (including Wallasea Island as the largest example of wetland restoration in the U.K.) the text stresses the multiple benefits derived from wetland restoration and the establishment of partnerships to achieve environmental objectives – increase on biodiversity, protection against floods and well-being benefits, just to name a few.
In the article, Matthew Simpson (Associate Director of WWT Consulting and President of the Society of Wetlands Scientists – Europe Chapter) highlights (amongst other topics) the beneficial effects if more land developers make use of natural wetland systems, rather than build expensive new flood defences.
Nature-based solutions are known to provide environmental, social and financial benefits, which will hopefully be widely accepted and recognised in the near future.
