WWT Consulting visits internationally important wetlands around Shanghai
Bena Smith, one of our Principal Consultants, is in China this week visiting wetlands in and around Shanghai including the internationally renowned Chongming Dongtan Ramsar Site, one of the most important coastal wetland sites in Asia for migratory waterbirds. Our visit is at the invitation of Mr Tang Chendeng, Deputy Head of the Shanghai Forestry Bureau, as well as a Director of Chongming Dongtan.
Mr Tang, accompanied by other Shanghai government staff including a member of the Shanghai Urban Planning & Design Research Institute, visited the Slimbridge Wetland Centre in early September. The group was very impressed by the design of the main facilities, diversity of habitats and range of public engagement activities. After an introduction by Sue Belej (Learning Manager at WWT), Bena took the group on a tour of the reserve and later held a meeting to discuss WWT Consulting services and potential options for future collaboration.
