Habitat design for wildlife
Successful wildlife habitat design and management requires intimate knowledge of species ecology and the physical processes occurring within a site.
To design, construct and manage habitat for target species, WWT Consulting combines the expertise of its ecologists, hydrologists and habitat designers. Our designs and management plans understand the specific habitat requirements of a species, such as water level regime, and then ensure these are met through careful design and a practical approach to site management.
To inform a design or management plan, we fully assess a site in terms of its ecology, topography, soil type and hydrology. We also consider site constraints, such as other species, buildings, pipelines, electricity cables and archaeology, and ensure our designs do not conflict with other land uses, such as agriculture.
WWT Consulting’s team of hydrologists and habitat designers have worked on schemes of varying sizes and have worked in all wetland types from peatlands to floodplains to mangrove swamps. The practical experience of design, construction and management gained in challenging situations around the world allows us to produce successful designs and management plans for our clients.
