Ecological monitoring and assessment
Understanding the abundance, distribution and behavioural ecology of a species is essential to determine both its status and the impact human activities have on the species.
WWT Consulting’s trained surveyors are highly experienced in both planning and implementing species monitoring and assessment projects for a wide range of species, including UK protected species. Our services include aquatic and terrestrial botanical surveys and monitoring, such as condition assessments, Phase 1 and 2 surveys, Aerial Photographic Interpretation (API), National Vegetation Classification (NVC) and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping. We also offer aquatic and terrestrial single species and multi taxa invertebrate surveys as well as surveys to assess habitats for invertebrate communities and to determine water quality.
WWT Consulting has an international reputation in bird survey design, monitoring, analysis and evaluation. We offer the full range of bird surveys and assessments including: standard breeding and wintering surveys; absolute counts; distribution studies; territory mapping; productivity surveys; distance sampling; disturbance studies; capture and marking studies; and radio and telemetry studies.
We are also the market leaders in undertaking aerial surveys for seabirds, waterbirds and marine mammals having undertaken over 700 flights in the last ten years and developed the protocol for analysis of high definition digital survey data. Have a look here at our interactive map showing what data we hold.
To help our UK clients, we have produced a calendar indicating the recommended times of year for undertaking surveys (download it as a pdf below). This is just a rough guide, please contact us and we can discuss your individual requirements and prepare a schedule of work.
