Construction has started for the new wetland area adjacent to the River Irwell in Salford, Manchester
The first week of construction has been successfully completed in the Salford sunshine alongside the River Irwell. The new wetland area, providing flood storage capacity and creating valuable habitat, is due to be completed this month.
The five hectare wetland, designed by WWT Consulting, will contain areas of marsh, reedbed, wet grassland, gravel islands and community ponds. Over the next few weeks WWT Consulting will continue to work with the Environment Agency to supervise the completion of the works. The flood management plan for the River Irwell can be viewed here.
