Ecological surveys at Staines Moor SSSI reported in this season’s edition of Biodiversity News
Our project to assess the ecological value of an SSSI site near London is featured in the current issue (no. 60) of Defra’s Biodiversity News. Click on the image below and scroll through to page 10.
An extended Phase 1 and vegetation survey was done along with breeding bird and invertebrate surveys – and results showed a lot more biodiversity than first expected. The site is well used by the local community for walking, bird watching and exercising and offers visitors the opportunity to escape urban areas and explore a large green space without travelling beyond the M25. With continued monitoring and careful decision making the site can continue to feature some excellent wetland habitats and species and provide an exciting place for local people to use and enjoy.
