New visitor centre and cafe now open for business
We have been working for Suffolk Coastal District Council and the Landguard Partnership on the design and install of some interpretation for a new visitor centre at Landguard Point, next to the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk.
The Landguard Partnership brings five elements of the Languard Peninsula together and ensures that the peninsula is managed sustainably for locals and visitors. The interpretation features each of the five elements of the partnership:
Landguard Fort, Port of Felixstowe, Landguard Nature Reserve, Bird Observatory and Felixtowe Museum
Some hands-on interactivity and ‘active graphics’ with puzzles to solve were designed to engage younger visitors and there is an on-demand multimedia display and interactive Ship Tracker exhibit which allows visitors to track ships in the area through live GPS feeds. A look out of the stunning picture windows of the View Point Cafe will confirm the tracking information with live sightings! Thanks to W19 Design and Dark Green Media for their parts in the project.
The Port of Felixstowe, which funded the visitor centre, handed over the keys to the council last Friday when we were partially through the install of the interpretation. You can watch the ceremony here on Felixstowe TV. The centre and cafe is now fully open so pop in for a cuppa if you are in the area and find out more about the military history, social history and wildlife of the area.
