Wetland park advice for Dongtan Wetland Park
Our Principal Consultant Bena Smith is at the Dongtan Wetland Park just north of Shanghai where he is advising our Client Joyful Cities Consultancy on its preparation of a Strategic Plan for the Wetland Park. The Park opened 8 years ago and attracts around 200,000 visitor per year but has enormous upgrade potential to provide a high class wetland conservation and education facility for up to one million visitors annually including schools from Shanghai which is only a one hour drive away. Bena met Park staff to hear their opinions and visited all the facilities, habitats and their Yangtze Alligator breeding programme. Being situated next to Chongming Dongtan National Nature Reserve, one of the most important migratory bird sites in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, a separate meeting was held with the Reserve Director to discuss how the project might affect the site. The Director had previously visited our Slimbridge and London centres in 2017.
