Possibilities in Algeria
Last week, Matt Simpson and a colleague, Chris Rostron from WWT’s Wetland Link International (WLI), visited the east of Algeria to help local stakeholders develop a visitor and education centre for the Guerbes-Sanhadja Wetland Complex. The wetland complex covers over 42,000ha and has been designated as a Ramsar site. The project is funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and supported by the national Forestry Department.
During the visit, Matt and Chris met with local stakeholders and held workshops with school groups, local farmers, local government technical staff and interested members of the public. Their views and visions for the centre will be incorporated into the centre and interpretation designs to provide a resource for local people and for visitors from across the region.
