Google aerial imagery beautifully shows the impact of WWT Consulting’s restoration design from arable fields to healthy, productive wetlands
Google aerial imagery over The Great Fen Project’s 170ha Kester’s Docking has been updated over the north of the site which has created a beautifully clear depiction of the impact of wetland restoration from arable fields to productive healthy wetlands. WWT Consulting carried out detailed surveys of the arable fields and then provided concept designs and construction plans for the wetland habitat creation. The constructed wetlands now support a wealth of fen wildlife whilst benefiting humans with other services such as water purification, flood resilience, groundwater recharge and recreational wildlife watching. Patches of naturally colonising reed can be seen in the image starting to form stands which will extend the area of this important habitat from the neighbouring Rymes Reedbed, whilst higher areas have been left to produce a mosaic of communities supporting a great diversity of species.
