Qualifications: BSc (Hons)
Beatriz has over seven years’ experience in wetland conservation, including wetland management, environmental education and waterfowl surveys coordination in both Spain and the Americas. She worked for several years on wetland conservation in the Neotropics at NGO level, being responsible for coordination of waterfowl surveys and serving as primary contact for scientific and technical enquiries. Her major duty was the creation of an active network of volunteer surveyors in 13 participating countries collecting reliable data that is now being used to designate wetlands of international importance.
Beatriz gained field skills working on constructed wetlands management at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Texas, USA. After graduation she also worked as a Research Assistant for several projects including Primate Ecoethology in Brazil and shorebirds breeding ecology. She also had the opportunity to participate as an Environmental Educator in a Marine Biology programme funded by the Spanish government.
Beatriz joined WWT Consulting almost three years ago as a member of the Aerial Survey team, and after being trained for this specialized skill she has been undertaking aerial surveys along the UK coastline for the last two years. During this time she has also gained valuable experience processing and analysing the data obtained during aerial surveys, as well as taking part on the planning and designing of new survey blocks.
Beatriz recently gained European Seabirds at Sea (ESAS) accreditation and is now able to conduct boat-based surveys in addition to the aerial surveys. She has also been trained in aquatic invertebrate surveying techniques for biological recording and monitoring.
Prior to joining WWT Consulting, she worked as a Consultant on the electronic version of the Neotropical Wetland Inventory, processing complete wetland information for every country in the Neotropics.
