The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) has had a long standing professional certification programme in North America. Certification signifies that the academic and work experience of a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) meets the standards expected by his or her peers of a practicing wetland professional.
WWT Consulting have been working with SWS, SWS Europe Chapter and the PWS programme to make the certification more applicable internationally and to improve the application process for international applicants. Part of this process has been for Matt Simpson to apply for PWS certification to test run the application procedure and we’re pleased to say that Matt is one of the first people outside of North America to be awarded professional wetland scientist status. This will hopefully pave the way for more applications from outside of the USA and a recognition from government agencies, companies and the public of the importance of a professional certification programme for wetland scientists.
If you’re interested in applying then please visit this website: www.wetlandcert.org
If you feel you don’t have the experience necessary to apply for full PWS then please consider the Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) certification. WPIT is a preliminary step for persons who meet the basic educational requirements but not the experience requirements.
