Visitor centre planning and design
Masterplanning, design and interpretation services to natural history, heritage and wetland centres
WWT Consulting is highly experienced in delivering complex natural history, heritage and wetland centre projects. We offer an approach that addresses the needs of both wildlife and people. Whether you are proposing a brand new facility or looking to improve an existing one, WWT Consulting can assist you.
We employ an holistic approach to masterplanning, forming a project team with a full range of expertise as early as possible in the process to ensure that all aspects are considered before decisions are made that would be expensive to reverse. Our project team would consider four core areas; interpretation, landscape, architecture and business. This allows us to provide our clients with a full service from concept, through feasibility to completion.
We also offer an audit and review service, with staff experienced in visitor centre management, visitor studies, and exhibit and learning programme evaluation. We can design upgrades to sensitively integrate new ideas with existing interpretation.
In 2013/14 we participated in an international workshop held in South Korea and supported by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. A Best Practice Handbook on the Planning, Design and Operation of Wetland Education Centres was produced with case studies from wetland centres around the world, including some of our projects. Many of the lessons learned can be equally applied to the wider visitor centre sector. You can download a print resolution copy (91MB) from the Ramsar Convention website here.
