Green & Blue

11 June 2010

The rain held off for our Green & Blue event at the London Wetland Centre last night

Food, drink, presentations, discussion and guided walks were all enjoyed last night at the WWT London Wetland Centre. The theme of the event was how to maximise the benefits of integrating green spaces and blue corridors into new or existing developments.

Local authority, planning agencies and developers in the London and South East region were invited to explore with us ways of creating effective urban wetlands that can contribute to water quality improvements, flood control, climate change adaptation and mitigation, amenity green space provision, biodiversity targets, and educational opportunities.

The event was timed to raise awareness of how we can assist developers in meeting targets driven in part by the 2010 Flood and Water Management Act. Read more about our services here.

The evening ended with a chance for guests to experience some of the grounds of the London Wetland Centre, itself an excellent example of an urban wetland providing many benefits to biodiversity and people, and celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. We were lucky enough to spot two wild Water Vole munching on their evening meal.

We hope to make these gatherings an annual event so if you have any suggestions for next year's theme that would interest you, please get in touch using the contact form.
