Two of WWT Consulting’s aerial surveyors, Anne Harrison and Phil Shepherd, recently took to the skies and headed for the icy north during the January big freeze.
The surveyors were spoiled by breathtaking views of a white-washed Lake District and Scottish Borders region during their transit flights between Liverpool and Dundee airports.
Despite the chilly conditions on board the six-seater Partenavia aircraft, flying at 5000ft in sub-zero temperatures, the crew captured images of icy saltmarsh, frozen lakes, snow-covered hills, beautiful sunsets, and the freezing waters of the River Tay during their descent into Dundee.
From Dundee, the team conducted aerial surveys for wintering waterbirds and seabirds in the Firth of Forth, one of the areas planned for the development of new offshore windfarms. The surveys, commissioned by the Crown Estate, are part of the national programme of aerial surveys in offshore windfarm development areas.
