While Phil Shepard and I (James Furse-Roberts) are sat in Hangzhou airport waiting for our flight home, I thought I would scribble a few lines about what we have been doing in China for the last few days. WWT Consulting was asked by the architects, John Thompson & Partners, to join them and landscape architects, Gillespies, on a design charrette for an eco-city.
The site we were looking at is approximately 35km2. It consists of a mixture of mountain and wetlands and is the site of a breeding programme for the Crested Ibis. The design team spent a busy few days drawing together a concept for the site that allowed it to be developed but also provided a wildlife reserve and blue infrastructure. We are all very excited about the proposal; so let's hope that the client takes it forward. A case study will be added after we get back to the UK.
