WWT Consulting were commissioned by Black & Veatch Ltd to undertake protected species surveys in an area surrounding the Welmore Lake Sluice on the Ouse Washes SSSI, Norfolk. The aim was to establish presence/absence and distribution of protected species on the site in relation to the proposed development of a new pumping station and associated access track.

Surveys were undertaken in June and August to identify the presence/absence of Water Vole Arvicola terrestris, bats, Otter Lutra lutra, Badger Meles meles and nationally scarce macrophyte species in the vicinity of the proposed works. Signs of additional species of note were also recorded.

Both Water Vole and Badger evidence was found during the survey and a report was produced, with tables of records, description of findings, discussion and recommendations  A target note map showing locations of findings and a run of photographs was also included.
