MAZDON Construction Ltd contracted WWT Consulting to design and construct a wetland treatment system to treat diffuse pollution from an industrial site. The design aimed to attenuate grey water runoff from a proposed animal feed store at Seaforth Docks. The system was designed to ensure that nutrients and other impurities derived from the animal feed would be removed prior to the water entering the catchment orf the Seaforth Nature Reserve, part of the Mersey Narrows Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

WWT Consulting worked closely with  Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside Wildlife Trust and Natural England to ensure that maximum biodiversity benefits, complementary to the existing fresh and saline water, grassland and saltmarsh habitats of the SSSI.

Following finalisation of the detailed design, comprising of a distribution chamber, storage lagoon, storm wetland and two parallel treatment reedbeds, the construction and planting of the system was overseen by WWT Consulting.
