WWT Consulting were commissioned by SNIFFER to produce a GIS-based wetland inventory for Scotland based on hydrogeomorphic principles. Pre-existing datasets were used to define ground or surface water dependency for Scottish wetlands.
The resultant GIS-based wetland hydrogeomorphic classification has been created for Scottish wetlands. The classification provides information on both designated and non-designated sites.
Further objectives of the work included a description of the pressures affecting wetlands listed on the inventory and the development of a prioritised plan for future wetland characterisation work. This plan covered aspects of the wetland resource not included in the wetland inventory.
