WWT Consulting was commissioned to assist with the development of exhibits and graphics for the Hong Kong Wetland Park, from concept to full brief for a 10,000 sqm visitor centre and 64ha park. This included providing all content from exhibit messages to detailed research to inform overall exhibit and graphic development, specifically the text, illustrations, objects, footage and photography for the whole exhibition. WWT Consulting also led on the development of the live exhibits including the fauna and flora selection for the aquaria and indoor enclosures, tank/ enclosure specification and associated husbandry requirements.

Following appointment of the main fabrication contractor, WWT Consulting assisted with the international fabrication and installation of the exhibits including the live exhibits to ensure consistency and accuracy within the fabrication process. During the fabrication process WWT Consulting organised a research trip to gather sound recordings, photography and footage, tree casts and undertake botanical surveys to inform the re-creation of a tropical swamp experience in one of the exhibition galleries.

This project involved liaising with a large team of consultants and specialists, including the lead consultant MET Studio Design, graphic designers, quantity surveyors, scientists, historians, lighting specialists, aquarium consultants and horticulturists.

Opening its doors to the public in 2006 to one million visitors in the first six months, visitors can explore the wonder of wetlands through a series of galleries displaying interactive exhibits, immersive spaces with live animal and botanical displays and a viewing gallery with windows onto the wetlands. Visitors can also walk outside along a series of trails leading to bird hides, mangrove boardwalks and a discovery centre.

WWT Consulting also worked on the masterplan and habitat design and you can read more about our work here.
