Brockwell Park Ponds Feasibility Study & Habitat Restoration

Client

London Borough of Lambeth

Location

Brockwell Park, London

Year

2005

The London Borough of Lambeth commissioned WWT Consulting to assess the feasibility of restoring a series of ornamental lakes and a relict stretch of the River Effra at Brockwell Park, London. Surveys of the existing topography, lake structures, silt levels and water quality were conducted to understand the physical characteristics of the site and inform the design phase of the project. Phase 1 habitat, aquatic macroinvertebrate, bird, fish, and incidental mammal and amphibian surveys were undertaken to assess the ecological value of the lakes and identify any constraints to restoration of the area.

Detailed restortation designs were then produced to improve the habitat and aesthetic quality of the lake area. WWT Consulting also supervised contractors, appointed by the client to undertake the construction and planting phase of the project, to ensure the designs were successfully interpreted on the ground.
