Aerial survey clients - UK Statutory Agencies, Crown Estate, renewable energy developers
UK inshore and offshore waters
1995 - ongoing
Employing the UK’s most accomplished aerial surveyors, specially trained in identification from aircraft, WWT Consulting has undertaken more than 800 aerial surveys.
WWT introduced the distance sampling methodology into the UK which has been used in surveys targeting important species such as seaducks, terns and shearwaters. Data have subsequently informed Special Protection Area (SPA) considerations, offshore windfarm Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and has contributed to national population estimates, for example revealing the presence of previously unknown aggregations of Common Scoter in Liverpool Bay and Red-throated Diver in the Thames.
From 2009 we have partnered HiDef Surveying Ltd to provide high definition video surveys and analysis. Since then we have completed and analysed over 185 surveys, providing statistically robust population abundance and density estimates through density surface modelling.
